Petition to Pleasant Hill City Council

Dear Pleasant Hill City Council:

  • 23% of Pleasant Hill tobacco stores visited by state enforcement in 2023 sold to an underage decoy, as did 20% visited in 2024.

  • 40% of Mt Diablo Unified School District juniors say it’s “easy” to get cigarettes and 62% say it’s “easy” to get vapes.

  • Big Tobacco spends over $7 billion a year to deliberately keep prices low because they know over 100 studies have shown that higher prices reduce smoking among teens and inspire adults to quit.

  • Some California cities have limited the number of tobacco licenses they issue, or even phased out tobacco sales altogether.

Please take this information into account as you consider ways to protect youth and public health in Pleasant Hill.
